Meet Sgt. Finn

Your Buddy. Your Guide. Your Biggest Fan.
Sgt. Finnegan—“Finn” for short—is the heart of The Buddy Project. He’s a trusted guide who helps kids stay safe, speak up, and look out for others.

Before he joined The Buddy Project, Sgt. Finn trained to be a seeing eye dog. He was smart, loyal, and focused—but deep down, he knew his mission was something different. Finn wanted to help lots of kids, not just one.  Now, as a K9 advocacy dog, he shares important safety tips and big-hearted encouragement through every comic adventure.

And guess what?
You’ll meet Lacey, his gentle, giggly doodle friend, and Daisy, a spunky tabby cat who’s always up for an adventure, very soon. They’re part of Finn’s buddy crew—and they can’t wait to join the mission.

Who this helps

When children endure the trauma of abuse or violent crimes, navigating the judicial system can be a terrifying ordeal.
Often, these young survivors are asked to testify in court or participate in forensic interviews, a process that can feel overwhelming.
The Buddy Project provides a familiar source of comfort and courage through the K9 Advocacy Program, offering children a specially trained K9 Advocate—a loyal dog who remains their consistent buddy throughout this daunting journey.

Unlike comfort animals, K9 Advocates are rigorously trained dogs equipped to support child victims during the most challenging moments.

These remarkable animals are highly trained to provide calm, non-judgmental companionship, helping children feel safe and supported during forensic interviews, court testimony, medical examinations, and therapy sessions.

Their presence reduces anxiety, builds trust, and empowers children to share their stories, aiding interviewers and legal professionals in gathering critical evidence for justice for these children.

We are proud to partner with Care House of Oakland County and their incredible Canine Advocates program in Michigan. Care House provides critical services to children impacted by abuse and trauma, and their trained advocacy dogs offer comfort and stability during forensic interviews, court appearances, and therapy sessions. Together, we’re working to raise awareness and expand the reach of these life-changing programs.

Where Your Support Goes

Proceeds from The Buddy Project directly support our partners at Care House of Oakland County and their Canine Advocates program—funding the placement and care of specially trained support dogs for child advocacy work.

Each dog is a graduate of elite guide dog training programs—many originally trained to be seeing eye or service dogs—giving them the exceptional temperament, focus, and empathy needed to support children through emotional and high-stress situations.

Your donations help cover:

  • The purchase and placement of these highly trained K9 advocates
  • Their daily care, including food, housing, and veterinary needs
  • Insurance and program support to ensure they can safely and effectively assist children
  • And most importantly, the expansion of this program into more counties, so even more children across the country can benefit from having a calm, caring companion by their side

By giving, you're not just funding a dog—you’re helping create a pathway to healing for kids who need it most.
